XVI Contest of Young Flamenco Artists 2018

The Delegate of Culture of the Provincial Council of Córdoba, Marisa Ruz, has presented the XVI Certamen de Jóvenes Flamencos, launched by the provincial institution, with the intention of supporting and promoting flamenco in the modalities of singing, guitar and dance. The competition is open to young people from Córdoba, or who can prove their residence in Córdoba or the province.

 

Marisa Ruz ha estasdo acompañada por el coordinador del certamen, Antonio Arcos, que han explicado que en  ésta edición se  “cuenta con el objetivo de proyectar el flamenco en la provincia, podemos decir que ésta institución es la que más fomenta éste arte entre los jóvenes en Andalucía, ya que este programa se suma al de ‘Flamenco en tu aula’, con el que proyectamos el flamenco por los colegios de la provincia de una manera pedagógica”.

The provincial deputy explained the different modalities that are available and which are detailed in the competition rules. Among them are, on the one hand, two prizes in the singing category, the Cayetano Muriel 'Niño de Cabra' Prize for participants aged 14 to 22 and the Antonio Fernández 'Fosforito' Prize for young people aged between 23 and 35.

In the guitar accompaniment category there is the Merengue de Córdoba Award for young people between 14 and 35 years of age and in solo guitar the Vicente Amigo Award; and finally, in the dance category, the Mario Maya Award for participants aged between 14 and 35 years of age.

La delegada de Cultura ha comentado que  “los  ganadores o ganadoras obtendrán un premio consistente en la realización de nueve galas por los  diferentes municipios de la provinciaeCórdoba, y una gala el finalista, cada una de ellas valorada en 350 euros para todas las modalidades salvo el baile, que está valorada en 800 € porque se incluye el acompañamiento”.

The competition will consist of an admission phase, a selection phase and a final phase. The selection phase will be held at the headquarters of the Diputación de Córdoba in May and the final in a town in the province in June. The jury will be formed by Antonio Fernández 'Fosforito', Manuel Moreno Maya 'El Pele', Rafael Rodríguez 'Merengue de Córdoba', Cristina Hoyos and Manuel Martín Martín Martín.

The coordinator of the programme, Antonio Arcos, stressed that those interested in participating in the selection phase must interpret or perform a total of two pieces in the cante category and two in the option phase to choose one from each of the two groups.

El primero será “a elegir entre seguiriyas, tientos, livianas, serranas, tonas, martinetes, debla, carceleras, caña, polo, malagueñas, cartageneras, tarantas, mineras granaínas, o fandangos naturales entre otros; y la segunda entre soleares, bulerías por soleá, romances, bulerías, tangos alegrías, romeras, mirabrás, caracoles, cantes abandolaos, peteneras, farruca, garrotín, guajiras, colombianas, milongas y vidalitas”.

Igualmente, Arcos ha remarcado que “en la modalidad de guitarra de acompañamiento tendrán que interpretar un toque de acompañamiento al cante y un toque de acompañamiento al baile de libre elección, dentro de los géneros o estilos flamencos; y en la modalidad de guitarra solista dos toques de guitarra de concierto solista, de libre elección, dentro de los géneros o estilos flamencos, ya sean de creación propia o de repertorio clásico. En cuanto a la modalidad de baile, los participantes ejecutarán un baile de libre elección”.

It has been reminded that the deadline for submitting applications will be 15 calendar days from the day following the publication of this call for applications in the Official Provincial Gazette (BOP).

Applications must be submitted at the General Registry of the Diputación de Córdoba, from Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 14.00 hours. Applicants who have a digital certificate may also submit their application online at the provincial institution's electronic headquarters 'www.dipucordoba.es/trámites'.
