5th Murcia Flamenco Singing Competition

Last Saturday 17th February the Final of the V Concurso de Cante Murcia Flamenca was held in the Auditorio de Guadalupe, and the jury awarded the prizes to the following artists:
First Prize, for the cantaor from Fernán Núñez (Córdoba) Bernardo Miranda with 1350€ + trophy, after performing Cartagenera-Taranta de Linares, Alegrías, Seguiriyas and Fandangos.
Second Prize, for the cantaora from Mairena del Aljarafe (Sevilla) Silvia Reina with 750€ + trophy, who performed Farruca, Soleá, Granaínas and Caracoles.
Third Prize, for the cantaor Pablo Padilla from Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), 500€ + trophy, with a repertoire of Malagueñas de la Peñaranda and La Trini, Levantica and Taranta, Seguiriya and Soleá por bulerías.
Before the awards ceremony, a performance by the flamenco group Raúl Corredera was staged, with a full house in the Auditorium of Guadalupe, which was attended by the Councillor for Culture Mr. Jesús Francisco Pacheco Méndez, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Murcia Ms. Cristina Guiaro, and the children of the honoree José Gelardo Navarro, David and Marina Gelardo, who presented the awards and trophies of this year's edition. The author of this year's poster, Manolo Belzunce from Lorca, was also present at the gala, which was presented by Raquel Moreo Moreno.
Los guitarristas que acompañaron a los premiados fueron Blas Martínez a Bernando Miranda, Mané Ortega a Silvia Reina y Antonio Fernández “El Torero” a Pablo Padilla. El jurado estuvo compuesto por la bailaora y profesora Beatriz Arce, y los investigadores Pedro Fernández Riquelme y Guillermo Castro Buendía.
