The Cruzcampo Foundation has announced the names of the artists distinguished in the XXXI edition of the Compás del Cante, one of the great flamenco awards in the national and international art scene. The award, which this year incorporates important new features, is renewed to respond to the concerns of a new generation without leaving aside its original essence: the Cruzcampo Foundation's commitment to flamenco and Andalusian cultural heritage.

The jury has designated the composer and guitarist Rafael Riqueni with the "Compás del Cante 2017" award for his authenticity, technical quality, emotionality and creative capacity, as well as for the naturalness of his music and its impact on the history of flamenco guitar and flamenco in general.

The creation of the "Nuevo Compás" award , a category created to promote the projection of new talents in Spanish flamenco, is part of this process of evolution. In its first edition, the jury decided to award the dancer Patricia Guerrero from Granada. The finalists were the cantaorRancapino Chico, born in Chiclana and son of the cantaor Rancapino and the guitarist Manuel Valencia from Jerez.

In addition, the Jury has decided to award a Special Mention to the famous flamenco singer Camarón de la Isla, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of his death. Considered one of the leading figures in the history of flamenco, the jury awarded him this distinction for the full validity of his work, as well as for his indelible artistic and cultural legacy.

This rejuvenation coexists with the nature of the award, which remains faithful to the principles that have defined it since 1984. Thus, the award ceremony of this edition of the Compás del Cante will once again be a social and cultural meeting dedicated to all those who have managed to elevate flamenco to become one of the most representative artistic manifestations of the culture of Andalusia and our country around the world. Rafael Riqueni, Patricia Guerrero, Rancapino Chico and Manuel Valencia will perform during the award gala, to be held on December 13 at the Teatro Central in Seville.
