ISLAND SHRIMP MUSEUM

ISLAND SHRIMP MUSEUM

ORIGIN, LEGEND AND REVOLUTION

Located next to the mythical Venta Vargas and the statue dedicated to the figure of the cantaor in the Plaza Juan Vargas, the 1,200 square metres that make up the exhibition space are divided into three thematic blocks that chronologically cover Camarón's life in three key stages: Origin, Legend and Revolution. The first focuses on his years in San Fernando, his childhood, his influences and hobbies such as bullfighting and his performances at the Venta de Vargas. The second focuses on his time in Madrid and the recording of the emblematic album 'La leyenda del tiempo' in an immersive experience. In between, his personal and artistic encounter with Paco de Lucía.

The last area, Revolution, covers everything that came after that mythical album and the moment when the cult of his person and his work develops; when the legend becomes a universal myth.

29 YEARS LATER

In the courtyard, one of the museum's star pieces, the Mercedes 300D car with which he drove thousands of kilometres from festival to festival, will be on display.

The inauguration of the museum, which settles the city's historical debt with the artist, took place on the 29th anniversary of the cantaor's death and was attended by the mayoress of San Fernando, Patricia Cavada, and the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, accompanied by the artist's widow, Dolores Montoya 'Chispa', and Paco Cepero, Medal of Andalusia and one of the first guitarists to accompany Camarón de la Isla.

THE GREAT FLAMENCO MUSEUM

Apart from paying tribute to José Monje Cruz, the installations aim to be one of the most important museum spaces dedicated to flamenco in Spain. To this end, it reviews the artistic and personal career of Camarón de la Isla with more than 5 hours of audiovisual content, which makes up the largest audiovisual compilation compiled on his figure, and an audiovisual museum collection of more than 30 hours of video, which serves to keep alive the study not only of Camarón de la Isla, but also of flamenco singing.

The centre also has a multi-purpose room with a large projection screen and a rooftop terrace to host events, lectures, presentations and small shows in an innovative and sustainable building that will help mitigate San Fernando's carbon footprint.

THE ISLAND'S SHRIMP ROUTE
